I've long desired to visit Frisco Woods campground and I'm thrilled that we finally did. The proprietors have made considerable improvements, so don't let outdated feedback deter you from lodging here. Its location on the sound side shelters you from the incessant winds that you'd experience at beachfront campsites. Our spot (B36) was absolutely ideal! FWCG serves as an excellent starting point for angling at the point or the Ocracoke beaches. The scenery is simply breathtaking. They've just completed a state-of-the-art dog park complete with a dog wash. Our spot came with full hook-ups and even included cable TV. We'll certainly return!

Let me start with the positive . . . The location on the Sound is amazing. Beautiful views and incredible access to the water. Unfortunately, while we were there, a sustained wind event moved in and a coastal flood warning was issued for the next 4 days. We had a site on the Sound and were worried about the road in front of our site flooding as well as flooding on Hwy 12. We contacted the office and were told we had nothing to worry about and no refunds were available. When we awoke in the morning, the road in front of our site was covered in water from the Sound. We decided to cut our losses and leave. We are so thankful we did. That was just the first day of wind. The next day Hwy 12 was completely closed for several days. We would have been stuck on our flooded site and forced to pay for extra nights. We understand the owner cannot control the weather, but some compassion and honest advice would have been much appreciated. Just know, if there is a weather event and you have a site on the Sound, it will flood. Also know that the wifi doesn't work throughout the campground. The owner knows and doesn't care. The wifi on the porch is amazing but it will not work on your site. I totally understand the difficult logistics. I just wish they were more honest about this when booking. The website should say, "Wifi access available at office," and not advertise wifi as part of the site amenities. Additionally, the bath houses were not very clean. Both the men's and women's in the front and back needed cleaning several days in a row. The roads are also pretty rough and full of potholes. After experiencing the flooding, I completely understand why. But again, the views and access to the Sound are incredible.

Late Nov. Camping trip so not very busy. The Campground closes at the end of November. Great site right on the water. We were able to launch our Kayaks right from the site itself and there is a boat ramp if you have need of it. Many of sites are full hookup, we paid for this as we wanted this particular spot, but didn't use anything other than electric. We are pretty self contained, but the first night was pretty windy and we didn't know if the gas would blow out, so we hooked up There were some ground issues with the hook up, but we have a Watchguard so not harm. Sites are pretty close together, so not sure how it would be in peak season, but was awesome for us. Good bathroom and laundry facilities. Each site has a picnic table No fire rings as ground fires aren't permitted, but if you can bring a raised fire pit you are good to go. Wifi worked well with a few different networks available. The Campstore seemed well equipped and the staff were very nice. We were offered AARP and Good Sam discounts, we don't have either though FYI. they will not be Good Sam 2022

Very nice campground with a mix of primitive tent sites, RV sites with hookups and cabins. I did not notice any full time/seasonal campers. All of the sites are grass and most appeared to be fairly level. They were laying new sod throughout the campground while I was there. The campground is very clean and well maintained. Most, but not all sites have some shade from trees. The RV sites have a decent amount of space but no buffer of any kind between most of them them. You're not packed in like sardines, but you will be staring at the side of your neighbors rig unless you're lucky enough (like I was for 2 of my 4 days) to not have a neighbor on your door side. Some areas towards the inner part of the campground seemed to have a huge grass area in front or behind the campsites. If possible you might want to scope out the campground before choosing your site. There is a huge variety. I stayed in site B10 which was on a little peninsula on the sound. It was a little tricky to get my rig turned around in that spot, but once I did the view was excellent! I stayed here in mid May and the weather was perfect. I only had to run the AC for a short time on two days and I was able to sleep with the windows open every night. If you are into kite-boarding or wind-surfing this campground is perfect. There are several spots to enter/exit the water and the water stays very shallow very far out into the sound, several hundred yards. On days when there is no wind, it's perfect for paddle-boarding. The campground is a 10-15 minute drive from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, which is where I spent a lot of my time surfing. There is a small store on site with groceries and camping supplies. The staff was very friendly. There is a tavern/restaurant right at the entrance to the campground too with a decent menu and a full bar. Easily within walking (or crawling) distance :) In general, I thought this place was really nice and the price was great for the location and full hookups. I would definitely camp here again.
