We wanted to spend a few days on the beach and this RV park is just across the street with easy access. They had openings on the day we drove through and for the next 3 nights. We knew a storm was coming in, but expected one rough night and rain the next day, but then it should start clearing up. We paid our 4 nights, set up, and walked out to the beach with a chair and a drink. Beautiful, soft, white sand. Beautiful waves and sunset. Beach lined with dead fish. Apparently “the red tide” was in full swing. The stench was unbelievable on the beach, so didn’t stay long. Soon after I started coughing and rest of family started shortly after. We hoped that the storm would blow it away. It didn’t. Next day we stayed mostly in RV, with brief trip to Port St Joe. But still windy, still coughing. Coughing worse when outside car or RV. Decided to leave the next day. Unable to speak to manager. That evening winds got so bad that the RV was rocking like a boat in the waves. Did not want another bad night of sleep so drove 15 minutes inland in the dark, parked at a store and slept like a baby. Coughing resolved over night. I wish they would have warned us of the red tide (we would not have paid for 4 days, but would have checked it out for a day or so). So check for red tide (especially if you have respiratory issues, which we don’t) at myfwc.com or ask as you make a reservation. They had been dealing with this for the last 2 weeks (wish they would have told us) and apparently this happens 2-3 times a year. RV park did credit us for 2 nights to stay sometime in the future. So check before you go! Yes, sites are close, but no closer than most private parks we have been in. Sites are FHU, gravel, and very level. Excellent cell service and wifi. Easy access. Very close to beach. BTW, per county ordinance, pets are not allowed on the beach. Once renovations after hurricane Michael are complete, El Governor will have a pool and more recreation. Bathroom is new and spacious (used showers and was clean). Town is still in the process of building back, only a few restaurants and gift shops open. I would stay here again, but with better weather and no red tide problems.

We were not able to get a site here because they were booked 2 months before we visited. We drove through in our toad and were so glad that we didn't get a reservation because it's just a huge parking lot with trailers and RVs packed in so tight our mouths dropped open. Sometimes No is the best answer you can get.
