Albion River Campground

34500 Highway 1
95410, Albion
California, the United States

Albion River Campground & Marina offers a unique camping and boating experience for both RV and tent campers.  Located south of Mendocino, California on the Albion Cove where the Albion River meets the Pacific Ocean, the campground is one of only two sites on the Mendocino Coast that provides both sheltered river moorage and ocean access.  The campground is an annual destination for abalone dive clubs, avid cod and salmon fishing groups, crab lovers, and kayak & canoe enthusiasts.  Boaters can either brave the ocean swells or explore the scenic Albion River.   Drop-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended April through September and on holidays to ensure there is space available.

Very dusty area. Not a lot of green grass in September, so expect a lot of dust. Sites are packed in tight, so expect a party environment in the evenings during summer. Road to get down wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. Friendly staff in the couple of interactions we had. Att service is non existent, Verizon worked well in off peak times and was unusable during peak times. Same goes for Wi-Fi

Don’t get scared by reviews of 14% grade on county road going down. It is a short stretch . We had 25 ft class C and it was just fine . We went up and down a few times . It becomes a zoo on long weekend with lot of tent campers in the mix. They rent Kayaks to go up the Albion river .. which was nice. Restaurant is closed due to Covid. Did nor use the bathrooms or showers. One dump was clean depending on time of the day. A small private beach was nice. Not exactly Sandy near the ocean.. but nice..

We had a full hook up site, you can save some $ by getting a site with a less. Over all this is a relaxing location and very enjoyable. Decent size sites, do a little pick and choose if you want a little more space. Friendly onsite staff. The wifi was on the slow end, but who goes camping to have home speed internet. Lot's of fishing, crabbing on site, and so many CA State parks and historic areas of interest to visit. There are previous reports of the road down to the camp...not as bad as they spoke, just beware of the hairpin turn, just angle for it to not be a problem. As a FYI, the Mendicino coast is not AT&T friendly.

This campground is good for big RV, for fishing/crabbing, a little expensive for us, 50 for partial hookup with water and electricity, fire ring and table. Provide WiFi.
