Mumbannar
A relatively large, open, level, grassed clearing by the wide and deep lower Glenelg River. Suit a group of >5 families camping Bush setting but with little shade. Spring brings wildflowers and orchids. Kangaroos and emus are common in the surrounding forest. Prolific bird life.
Glenaire
A large flat and grassy campground on the Western Side of the Aire River suitable for large groups and caravans. The nearby boat ramp makes launching a canoe nice and easy and this is a great spot to base for a kayak fishing trip. You can paddle all the way up to Lake Craven or south to the ocean.
Newnes
Large open campground surrounded by native bush, by the Wolgan River. This is a great family campground (and is quite popular with them at times). The camping area is very open and grassy, so makes a great spots for the kids to play.

On the edge of Three Mile Dam in the high country of Kosciuszko National ParkIn the summer, this is a spectacular alpine lake surrounded by snow gums, in the winter it is a white wonderland and the lake can freeze mostly over.
Smythesdale
Large open grassed flat area suitable for tents and vans alike. Clean toilets and shower amenities. Large communal sheltered fire area, kids play ground, water/sink camp kitchen area. Pay via donation. Shady area. Great spot overall. Managed by local volunteers.
Forrest
Located in the narrow, forested valley of the Barwon River East Branch. Most of the camp area is a cleared, grassed hillside with a few small flat benches cut into the hill - best for tent camping. Well shaded by tall Mountain Ash.
As the name might suggest, this is a recreational reserve that is popular during the warmer seasons. The "beach" is made entirely from river stones, but you take what you can get. . . The ground is well-grassed, although sometimes boggy.
Cowa
Shady, and grassy campground on the Dargo River, suitable for caravans and tents. Surrounded by hills and right on the Dargo River, this is an excellent free campground that is suitable for tents or caravans. The river is fairly shallow but flows cleanly over small gravel racers.
Rubicon
Level and shady campground alongside the Rubicon River in Rubicon State Forest. There are only basic facilities here, however it is quite a pleasant campground. It gets popular in the warmer weather (being only a couple of hours drive north east from Melbourne).
Mitta Mitta
Open, shady and easily accessible campsite on the edge of the Big River. The river flows reasonably well along this stretch and has been known to offer up the odd trout. It is a beautiful stretch of river, traveling over some small gravel racers and wider, slow moving sections.
Anglers Rest
Large, open campground on the banks of the Cobungra River. The river here is quite attractive and offers anglers and kayakers a place to play.

Nichols Point
Dispersed bush camping on pleasant grassed beaches by the Murray River surrounded by flood plain forest - River Red Gums, billabongs and swamps. Odd BBQs and tables have disappeared = no facilities. Very distant traffic noise. Prolific bird life and occasional cattle grazing. Rated 4.
Clonbinane
Well equipped and attractive campsite in Mount Disappointment State ForestThe Andersons, after which this campground was named were and old gold mining familyBeing reasonably close to Melbourne, this campsite is quite popular during the busy season.
Bodalla
This camping area is in the Eurobodalla National Park not far from Moruya on the shore of the shallow Lake Brou. A short walk brings you out onto the un-patrolled beach - for fishing, swimming and boarding. Lots of walks around the area through the bush or along the beach. No fires are permitted.
Kalimna West
A pleasant, secluded picnic ground in a forested creek valley surrounded by low ridges. Well off the highway and the forest road, but expect day picnickers Gravelled and level car park, grassed grounds surrounded by log barriers. Creek may be dry.
Glenluce
Bush camping (no facilities) on the banks of the Loddon River. Most of the site is a cleared level paddock, well grassed but open to the road and shaded by one fir tree. May be boggy when wet.
Blue Mountains National Park
Among low bush and scribbly gums, this is a very attractive campsite close enough to Sydney for a quick nature fix. The camp sites are fairly level and mostly grass. There is a fire pit and picnic table at each campsite.
Burrowye
A large river-side reserve, with a grassed open paddock by the road and tiered river flats by the river where white trunked Manna Gums, willow and wattle provide some shade to grassed sites. Features long pebbly river beaches and a pleasant rural outlook.
