Terre Haute KOA

5995 East Sony Drive
47802, Terre Haute
Indiana, Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika

We are a quiet, shady, pet-friendly, family oriented campground just outside the city limits. We are just minutes away from several local attractions including America's Historic Crossroads and at the end of your day you can enjoy a cozy campfire! It's really comforting to know you have a choice when you're staying with us. We have long, level pull-through sites with room to spare for even those Big Rigs with a tow. We have Camping Cabins with both heating and air conditioning, a full-service Deluxe Cabin with a private bathroom, full kitchen, beautiful patio and all the comforts of home. Our on-site Krossroads Cafe fills the air with home-cooked aromas of bacon and eggs in the morning as well as steak, burgers and pizza in the evening. Terre Haute offers year-round entertainment possibilities from the Boot City Opry, the Terre Haute Symphony, to the Hulman Center Concerts and Sporting events and Community Arts. We also have an ample supply of local museums, cinemas, restaurants and historic treasures, as well as plenty of shopping opportunities within minutes of the campground. We hope you enjoy your visit with us while traveling through Indiana's Wabash Valley.

We lodged in a high-end campsite with a private patio, featuring a privacy fence on one side and a spacious concrete patio on the other. It came with a mini grill and ornate patio furnishings made of wrought iron. The majority of the sites are pleasantly shaded and peaceful, even though it's located near a highway. You can find grocery stores and other amenities about 10 minutes away. This campsite used to be a KOA campsite, so you can anticipate its layout (a combination of paved (super premium) and gravel RV sites, cabins, and tent sites) and facilities to be similar to other decorated KOA campsites. It offers various amenities including a pool, a jumping pad, a playground for children, a small shop, a kids' "race track", gem panning, and more. The most enjoyable and entertaining aspect of this park are the sociable resident donkeys and goats, which we, including our dog, loved visiting every day!

The recreational vehicle resort is quite pleasant. We only stayed for a brief night during our extended journey. There were a few upgrades currently underway. The park includes a lovely playground for children and a mini animal interaction zone. The added advantage was the availability of Door Dash delivery service in this region. The downside was, due to the ongoing renovations, there was just one bath/shower unit available, which was inconvenient as it's a shared facility for both genders.

The critique is centred on a brief stay as opposed to a long-term camping spot. The journey to the camping area was intriguing, involving two roundabouts and a route that led from I-70 to the campsite. Despite its proximity to I-70, it's not directly accessible from the highway. However, the signs leading to the campsite were clear. The camp office was closed around 5PM on a Monday, but all necessary documents were available in outdoor slots. We utilized the campsite map to navigate to site 51, which was fully equipped. During our second visit, we were directed to site 47, which also had full hookups. Two campsites shared utilities. This campsite was ideal for a brief stopover en route to and from Elkhart, IN for RV servicing. The campsite also boasts a spacious dog park. We received strong signals from both Verizon and T-Mobile. The campsite is populated with mature trees, but they shouldn't interfere with satellite reception. We received numerous over-the-air channels as the campsite doesn't provide cable services. The Wi-Fi service was impressive for a campsite of this size, and the water pressure was satisfactory. For campsite 47, be cautious of the tree on the right to avoid damaging your awning. The campsite also offers tent spaces and cabins. Permanent, transit, and seasonal campers were present, and their areas were generally well-kept. The presence of goats and donkeys added a delightful touch.

We were looking for a place to stay the night (we were driving through from northeast Ohio to southwest Arkansas). Through Campendium I found this campground. It was too late to use their reservation system (which didn't seem to allow/accept same day reservations) but FAQ section of their website gave instructions for those who arrive after hours without reservations, so we gave it a shot. It was easy to get to from I70. It was about 8 pm (the office closes at 6 pm). Locating an available spot was the easiest we have encountered... at a well lit corner of the office building were slots for every site, and a map of the campground. For sites that were available there was a laminated card with the site's information (size; services e.g. electric, sewer, if it was a pull through; and cost). For those sites that were reserved but people had not shown up yet, there were packets with the last names (which presumably contained all the info they needed for their stay). We just needed to pick a site, take the laminated card from its slot, take one of the provided maps, and an after hours registration envelope and then proceed to our site to set up (we had a pull through site with full hook ups; the cost was $62 but with Good Sam discount paid $56). A pleasant related experience: while looking at the available site information, a woman passing by asked if we had ever been there before. When we said no, she enthusiastically told us how much she and her family loved the place, that they come every year, some campground information, and gave advice on sites and driving to the site (it was dark so that info is always helpful). We noticed a number of amenities even though dark, and then more the next morning as we walked our dogs. There is a short walking trail through the woods (the outer most sites are up against or under trees; those in the middle had either one to a few trees or no trees). There is a pet exercise area (a no leash place for your dogs to scurry around). There is a large playground with what looked like a lot of things for the kids to play on. Getting to the playground is through a little covered bridge which is not only cool but is needed because the playground is nearly surrounded by large enclosed areas containing two donkeys (mules?), and adorable sheep and tiny goats. I believe you can pet the animals, but even if not they are adorable to watch. There is also an "outdoor kitchen" which is a common area near the office with a large fire pit and lots of seating. There are a number of amenities we didn't use on our quick visit (I suggest perusing their website). This is a family owned campground (one of four they have). They obviously care about their campgrounds and the people who stay there. The campground is near to I70 which initially worried me, because repetitious, constant noise drives me nuts :) but it turned out to not be a problem at all... it was far enough away that the the traffic sound was more like white noise which I didn't even notice after a while. While you can tell that the buildings are older, they are well maintained and clean. There is only one bathroom facility (with showers) which is in the office/camp store building, but because the campground is fairly small it is not far to walk at all if you need them. There are cabins to rent, spots for tent camping, and trailer/motor home sites; we saw nearly every size of RV from pop-ups to Class A's. The rates vary depending on site size and services; they give a discount for Good Sam or military personnel (and one other discount but cannot recall what that one was). We would definitely stay there again if driving through the area or visiting Terre Haute.

I don’t know about other reviews on other sites were mixed about this place, but I feel that with the new ownership that is in place, this campground will soon be a very popular place. It’s the little touches and attention to detail from their bathrooms to the campsite. Laundry, rec room, gym, pool, beautiful showers WITH comfy fresh clean shower mats! What place has free coffee, cookies and popcorn all day and also checks on you during the day to see if you got everything that you need? Not any other place that I’ve stayed at. Trust me that this place checked everything on my needs list while living in my RV!!!!

This was my first site as a solo young female traveler. I felt really safe! Lots of amenities for families. Decent Verizon service (free wifi). Easy to find (used Google Maps). Cute ¼ mile walking path. Arrived very late to an envelope with my name and map directly to my spot. Has a peddle racetrack and makes me wish I was solo to race someone But my favorite thing was the donkeys! I only wish I could work right next to them all day.
