Wingello Campground

2579, Wingello
New South Wales, Australien

A reasonably peaceful maintained free camping ground in a state forest, away from the noise of the Hume Highway.
Pine plantations surround the area, however much of it has been re-purposed for Sport and Recreational activities. You can expect a few day visitors who've come to train, so it's not entirely peaceful, and you'll need to leave the phone inside a metal cage, as there's mobile reception. The grounds are regularly closed, 1-2 times every month, for the exclusive use of large organized activities such as mountain-biking, dog-sledding, Duke of Edinburgh, etcetera. The campground has an information kiosk listing the dates, or alternatively you could phone the Forestry Corporation Information Line 1300 655 687 during office hours. There is a small rainwater tank and faucet on the toilet block, and a few hard-to-access flowing creeks in the area. The recommendation is to bring in your water. Rubbish bins are provided. There are a few small concrete foundations about the campground that may be useful (motorcycle parking, BBQ, ...). There is also a large concreted area, approx 5 metres by 5 metres. Campfires are only allowed between Easter and October. Wood fuel seems to be provided, at least for the large organized camping groups, and some may remain afterwards. Thanks to Peter for the following additional notes. A convenient, quiet camp close to southern Sydney, this is an old forestry camp in a pine plantation: a range of different pines, a grassed clearing, picnic ground and a couple of sheds. Tank water. Well shaded by pines and exotics and surrounded by forest. The WC has a designer tile floor. TV reception is good.

Access
This campsite is accessable with regular 2wd vehicles.

Getting there
