If you’re used to private RV parks and businesses driven by profits then you’ll be happy here. Sure, you can reserve a site, but when you arrive you’ll find the sites are first come first served. If you have a small rig, perfect but a 27ft trailer and long box truck Haha sucks to be you! There is No Wifi in the park except near the “club” houses. We will Never stay here again! The OR state parks are far nicer.

Really nice camp ground. Full RV hook ups and even cable available in some sites. Had no issues with our 32’ 5th wheel. There’s a nice dog area behind the 70’s RV campgrounds. Indoor pool with a hot tub, clean and very nice amenity for visiting this camp ground in the fall. Also a really nice walk to the beach. Only down fall is that store is closed which wasn’t a big deal, I just like looking around, but was frustrating that propane was not being sold, nearest propane is in Newport, however multiple places didn’t have anyone “certified” to fill it. All in all a great stay.

We lucked out and got a larger site slated for 38' and above. It was down the main entrance road so getting in was easy but tight on the ride out of the park. The roads have tight turns and are too narrow for larger vehicles. The site was plenty long for the trailer but needed some gravel in the front as we had to park our truck in the mud. The utilities worked fine. Cell service was non existent at the site for Verizon. You had to go in front of the park office to use wifi. We did not use the laundry or pool. A nice path to the beach.

Thousand Trails Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort offers access to the Oregon Coast. We stayed a full week at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort and were amazed at the endless scenic beauty offered up along the Oregon Coast. In this video, we show you why Whalers Rest RV Campground is our favorite Thousand Trails RV campground in the Northwest. AT&T cellular service clocked in at 110 Mbps download speed and 1.37 Mbps upload speed. There was no Verizon or T-Mobile cellular service at this location.

We are TT members and usually take our travel trailer, but wanted a little more space and convenience for a special birthday weekend on the (usually windy and rainy) Oregon Coast. This was our first cottage or cabin stay at a Thousand Trails and I would highly recommend it based on our experience this weekend. We had the Cottage that sleeps 6 (we have 4, 6 people would be pretty crowded!) We opted for the full kitchen-be warned, no oven but a nice gas stove. Highlights included: friendly employees and a very clean cottage. Personalized service! They had the lights and heat ready for our late arrival. There is a walking trail down to a glorious beach-be careful-it runs right into the highway. Very convenient! We lucked out with a rainbow and clear weather our first morning. The rest of the trip was typically rainy, windy, gloomy but there is a lot to do indoors in Newport. The Wax Museum has been revamped, lots of restaurants, candy and tourist junk shops-the norm. The Sea Lion Docks are quite entertaining. Nye Beach area was also cute. Newport is about 10-15 minutes North of the campground and their are a few small towns etc. 10-15 minutes south as well. The beaches in this area are all really pretty and very accessible. The campground was well kept and clean, lots of trees, typical of a TT. The main clubhouse has billiards, ping pong and foosball. I even put some music on the little BT stereo while we hung out for a bit. The shop (not always open) had lots of fun stuff in it. When we weren't exploring, it was a really comfortable, cozy place to sit around and do nothing. The bigger bed was really creaky, and mildly uncomfortable-really the only negative I can remember. Wifi worked well in the cabin and ATT was good enough for hotspot sharing. Verizon, not so much. We are looking forward to a trip in our camper here when the weather allows more outdoor living. For the price, I find it to be a good value in comparison to a traditional vacation rental. There aren't a ton of hidden fees and you get the little extras that TT offers.

Overall, we had a great stay. The park is clean, the staff is friendly and all the amenities worked. The beach is a very easy and short walk away, though you have to jaywalk the 101 in order to get to it, a bit of anxiety with small kids. My only real complaint is that they have crammed so many sites into this park that it's arguably dangerous. It's so tight, we barely fit with our 40FT motorhome, and navigating it was a bit treacherous. Rigs on top of rigs with barely any room for cars that where also stacked on top of one another. Mixed with the beautiful trees, you simply can't see a thing driving through it. That made us nervous with our kids running around exploring. Space aside though, we had a great stay underneath the trees.

Staff were super pleasant when I arrived. They answered all my questions ad this place is VERY organized. I asked about satellite tv reception and they had a listing of which sites might be best for that. That's a first in any CG I've been too. This CG is covered with tall trees so it is rare you can get a site with a view of the southern sky. The ranger even highlighted the one that were open. First impressions A+++ I then asked about cell service. First question back to me was who is your provider? I said ATT and Verizon. I was told ATT was good through out the CG so you can go anywhere. Kudos again for having that info at check in! I was able to get a site, pretty level, satellite reception, and good internet. All free so I am golden. There is a path to the beach. It's a short walk and you do need to cross 101. Bathhouses are clean. There is a pool and hot tub (didn't use it). It does get cool here. In summer it was down in the 40's and highs only in the 60s. I was super good with this after spending 3 months in 90s and 100s in the high desert. ATT was excellent as I was told. 100mbps DL and 11mbps UL. I did try Verizon just to see and I was on the southside CG. This is the "bad" side for big red. And it did perform as expected, nil, I would get a signal with my Pepwave Cat-18 modem and antennas on the roof but not throughput. I think it was -130 RSRP. No bueno for Verizon where I was. Newport is a short drive away (~10 miles) and has any number of stores and places to eat. It is also pretty scenic. There are sea lions (I believe, maybe walruses) on the docks and a ton of fishing boats. Nice that this TT in Oregon is one of the few that have full hookups. Gravel roads and sites. The only noise I could hear was the roar of the ocean. I did not hear any road noise from the highway.

We stayed here for 14 days and loved it. For 7 days we had family staying in site 138 with us, and for one night we had family stay in a cabin. We all loved it! The pool and hot tub were very nice and the limited interaction we had with the staff was wonderful! We also met really nice neighbors. Full-hookup sites that were relatively level and nice and shady. They also indicated that some sites were for over 38' rigs only which is AMAZING considering we are 44'. Easy access to the beach and to Newport which had amazing crabbing. We would stay here again! The park internet was fantastic for us as we were located right next to one of their antennas. If we didn't have that, we wouldn't have been able to work for the two weeks we were there.

Ranger Ed checked us in and he was a super nice guy. This gentleman even told us which sites were currently available. Wow what a great start! We ended up selecting back-in full hookup site #150 as it is located on the quiet north side of the park. It was quite comfortable. Ed mentioned that cable was available for an extra charge, but this was not necessary as we were able to program 25 over the air TV channels including all of the major networks. The best thing about our site though was the blazing fast and free wifi. WHAT??? This is almost unheard of at a Thousand Trails park. Major score! My AT&T phone had 2 strong bars and my wife's Verizon phone had 2 bars as well. We also spoke to another kind ranger named Matt. All of the staff members were fantastic! The north clubhouse has a laundry area but the fitness center was closed due to Covid. The south clubhouse has free wifi and an indoor pool. The pool looked clean but we didn't try it. There is also a beautiful new tennis court near the ranger station. We also ordered a package during our stay and it arrived with no issues. They normally charge guests $5.00 but we were exempt as our package contained RV parts. The south side has a walking trail that goes to the beach at Lost Creek state park. You have to cross 101 though so be careful. The town of Newport is about 7 miles to the north and it has the closest groceries and shopping. Devil's Churn and Thor's Well are located about 20 miles south and both are highly recommended. If you want to check out the sand dunes then head down to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. It's about a 90 minute drive south but well worth it.
