You can’t beat the beauty of Trimble and the endless activities and restaurants that Durango offers. Nestled within this dynamic duo, Westerly provides a no-frills, quaint, and friendly place to hang your hat. Safe and beautiful road biking options are a-plenty and the neighborhoods across the highway provide great running and dog walking opportunities. We did experience an explosion of boxelder bugs (June visit) that were overwhelming at times and didn’t have the greatest water pressure due to the shared faucet head, but neither warranted a tarnished review. The highway and train noise were as you would expect, given the location of the park but the central location was worth it.

With a snowstorm coming in mid-Oct, we opted to find an RV park. W choose this one because it wasn't yet closed for the season and was across the street from a hot spring resort. We requested a 1-night reservation on the phone and inquired if a second was available in case the weather didn't clear. They said yes and we could decide when we got there, but charged us for both nights anyway. We were assigned spot 11, which is a 'full forward' site. Which places you awning to awning with your neighbor, and your front facing the back of the RV in front. Definitely not our favorite style. There was a shared picnic table and fire pit (which was full of trash). We would have been much happier in one of the back-ins, but they seemed to be under construction or maintenance. The equipment was running most of the day, which made our stay even less relaxing. So thank goodness of the hot springs literally across the street! They were absolutely marvelous. We booked a 2-hour window at sunset, and it made the stop worthwhile. The park however did not offer any coupons as noted in prior reviews. Thankfully the weather cleared and in the morning we asked if we could get a refund for the second night they charged us. They did so without hesitation - so at least there is that. Overall, if we were stopping just for the park - we'd pass. It's pricey and just not our general style. But we'd definitely put up with the park again for access to the hot springs.

This was our first experience staying at an RV Park. We typically dry camp because we want to get away! However, we were traveling from AZ and since we didn't know the area well, we thought it would be best to have a dedicated spot. The park is smaller than the others we researched and we thought that would be an easier transition from dry camping to being at a campground. We could not have been happier with our choice. The grounds are well-maintained with most back-in spots offering nice shade trees. We stayed in spot 7 for the majority of our stay and I would recommend this spot for a few reasons. 1: It faced North and had nice shade pretty much any time of the day. Our toy hauler has a back patio with an awning so we enjoyed sitting out there and enjoying the scenery. 2: There is a field of cows/bulls next to the park on this side. We got a kick out of seeing them each day. 3: There is a little stream that flows thru the back of the site from the natural hot springs across the street. 4: Mountain views! The owners were SO nice. Their cat happened to have kittens 3 weeks prior to our stay and they were so sweet in letting us (my hubby and 2 kids) come see them on a daily basis. We ended up extending our stay another night and moved to spot 3. This spot didn't have as much tree cover, but was still nice and on the side of the park with the stream. However, a large shed blocked the view of the cow pasture :( The other campers were very respectful. I think just about everyone had at least 1 dog if not 2 with them and I never heard them. The park is right next to a natural hot springs resort/spa. The monk coffee place located inside the resort made a killer Americano. There is a nice grocery store, ace hardware, and liquor store right across the street. As advertised, it is about 10 min from downtown Durango and about 20 min from Purgatory Ski Resort. Some great hiking trails just a quick drive up the road. My husband and daughter even did some dirt biking there while my son and I hiked around. There are laundry facilities on-site that came in handy (2 washers and 2 dryers). The only downside I can think of is that the park is right off of the main road that goes between Silverton and Durango so if you are hoping to sit outside and listen to nature, you will be slightly disappointed. The traffic does wind down at night. The train runs across the street but only during business hours so it isn't an issue at night. Cell coverage is pretty spotty, but I noticed that in general for the region, not just at the park.

We stopped for one night and enjoyed it. We had a nice camping spot at the end near the highway so there was some road noise and a train came by a few times. We sat outside for dinner so the noise definitely didn’t stop us from that. The camp hosts were very nice, talkative and informative. There were no bathrooms. The campground is clean and wifi was fast.
